That’s why the Next Steps Youth & Education Programme is a crucial initiative — especially for young adults without strong family backing. It provides the tools, guidance, and education necessary for them to become self-sustaining members of society. So far, 112 youths have been part of the programme. Many have successfully transitioned into independent living — often sharing homes with friends or relatives — while pursuing academic or vocational training. They remain connected to our community, often returning to share their progress or offer their talents, such as teaching dance or music to younger children. As part of the programme, Umbrella helps these young adults develop key life skills to ensure long-term independence. We assist with:

Accommodation – Finding safe, appropriate housing and helping furnish it.

Meals – Teaching cooking and budgeting through real-life practice.

Travel – Encouraging independence by helping them navigate public transportation.

Our team is always nearby to provide counseling, financial support, and motivation. These youths are in charge of their futures — and we’re here to make sure they have everything they need to succeed.

Why Is It Important?

Creating Independent Futures in a Challenging Economy

Umbrella's family-first philosophy focuses on reintegration. When that's not possible, we support children in our homes until they can live independently.
Nepal's unemployment rate is high, even for qualified individuals. The Next Steps Programme is vital in helping youths — especially those without family support — gain the education, skills, and guidance needed to become self-sustaining adults.
