Inspired by the ‘Stop Violence Against Women’ Campaign run by the Human Rights Film Festival Nepal (HRFFN) and the British Council in Kathmandu, and just in time for International Human Rights Day, the children of Umbrella had an awareness day on human rights, in particular on women’s rights. We had a discussion workshop, film screening (with popcorn!) and made a ‘Wall of Hope’ with positive message about self-belief and making change.
The creation of our ‘Wall of Hope’ was simultaneously a launch event for our own ‘Girls’ Education Programme’ which aims to educate the girls and women in our care on women’s health, women’s rights and empowerment. It also aims to support the girls in developing and building self-esteem, confidence, healthy relationships and social skills through monthly workshops. The programme has been put together by our incredible volunteers who also have been responsible for conducting the workshops.
