What is a Sponsor?
Sponsorship provides sustainable income to enable us to offer support, education and security to the children in our care. The Umbrella Foundation relies almost entirely on the generosity of our friends around the world. We spend around €80 per month (depending on the program) for each child and youth’s housing, education, food, healthcare, clothing and extra tuition. However, some youth remain unsponsored and, as a result, the pressure to meet our monthly bills is always a challenge. In becoming a sponsor, you are in effect helping all of our projects. Please look at our sponsorship brochure for more detailed information about each program!
What can I expect as a sponsor?
Our sponsors make a real difference in the lives of the children you choose to support. To avoid jealousy or ill-feelings amongst them, you are described as their friends or big sisters/brothers from abroad. You receive information packs about your sponsor child periodically with a general update from Umbrella, a letter if supporting a NSEP or FCP youth, and – where children have been successfully reintegrated – an update on their family/community situation. All sponsor updates will include photos. These updates enable sponsors to get a good insight into the life of the child they support, to see how Umbrella’s work impacts that child and to learn just how important your help is.
How do I become a sponsor?
It’s very easy – all you need to do is complete the online Sponsorship Application form. While it costs Umbrella sometimes more than €80 per month to support a child or youth, we only ask you to send at least €20 per month by standing order or direct debit. This will enable us to plan our budgets and maintain the level of care for each child and youth.

“I am proud to see his progress both in English language and at school.”
I decided to become a sponsor at Umbrella Nepal after reading the book “Little Princes”. I find it very gratifying to sponsor my “little brother” of Kanchanjunga’s House. I receive regular news updates and school reports that help me know him - I am proud to see his progress both in English language and at school. I recently got the opportunity to travel to Nepal and pay a visit to meet my little brother and his brothers and sisters. The children are living in a structured environment, sharing games, food, study time twice a day (morning and evening), and going into a famous Government School. I was very moved by the warm welcoming I got from everybody and all the little brothers and sisters from Umbrella Foundation. I enjoyed sharing Dhal Bat, (Delicious and spicy Nepalese food), football games, little brothers had to teach me, very graciously) a disco night (they all are amazing dancers as well), and walking with them to and from school. I was impressed on how well behaved and joyful the children are. As well as the human values that emanates from all of them. I am thankful to be a part of Umbrella Foundation’s life. In a nutshell, I receive more than I give and have learned a lot… Read more
