A Covid-19 message from our Country Director

2020-04-30
Namaste Everyone!
Sadly Covid-19 has spread all over the world, taking the lives of so many people. We have been in lockdown since March 24 and it will be extended for a few more weeks we believe. It has been a difficult time for many, and our top priority is to make sure our youths feel supported during this time.

Here in the Umbrella family we all are doing well. Our youth living in Kathmandu were provided with hand sanitisers and face masks before the lockdown. During this distribution; each individual youth was also given an orientation about safety measures from information shared by the World Health Organisation.

After the lockdown we started working from home, and our  children and youth have been monitored over the phone as well as through Facebook. We have been collecting their updates every 2 days, and we also set up a Facebook Messenger group for our older youths to discuss their concerns with each other and our staff members, and to share relevant information and news updates.

Fifteen youths in Kathmandu, who either live by themselves or with family members who have recently lost their  income, were recently supported with food supplies (rice, lentils, cooking oil, salt etc.). This support is provided on a needs-basis, and we are closely monitoring each child and youth’s situation in case we need to provide further support. We are glad that so far, we have been successful in keeping ourselves and our children and youth safe and supported, which we couldn’t do without the help of our amazing sponsors and donors.

I hope you and your family are healthy and keeping safe as well. I see a positive in that this will one day pass, and we are all in this together. I would like to send my thoughts and prayers to you all.

Thank you very much for your continued support.
Let’s be safe and healthy!
